Every day we have challenges presented to us and by developing our
mental toughness we can deal with these challenges and move forward.
Mental toughness is an essential skill for managing the daily
stresses of life.
Mental Toughness can been described as our ability to respond in
healthy and productive ways when we’re confronted with adversity or
trauma.
The same skills of mental toughness are as important to broadening
and enriching one’s life as they are to recovering from setbacks
In other words, mental toughness is important:
 | in picking yourself up from setbacks AND
|
 | in creating a more enriching life for yourself
|
What determines our mental toughness is a dynamic interplay between
our inner and outer worlds. There are many factors from our childhood
that impact on our resilience – poverty, divorce, physical abuse,
malnutrition, and so on. These are in the past and cannot be changed.
However, some of the internal factors that impact mental toughness
can be modified or even counteracted. This includes your own thinking
style.
What are some thinking traps that we can fall into that can reduce
our mental toughness?
 | Jumping to conclusions
|
 | Tunnel vision
|
 | Magnifying and minimising
|
 | Personalising
|
 | Externalising
|
 | Mind reading
|
 | Emotional reasoning
