One of the main questions our clients ask us is 'how can we make
training stick?' That is, what can we do to ensure the benefits of
the training continue in the workplace?
The bottom line for training to be effective is for us to see a
positive change or enhancement in employees' behaviours. So, what can
we do to maximise the results of the time, effort and dollars we put
into training? How can we be sure it really works?
Let me offer you a few practical ways I have found really do work in
organisations (whole PhDs have been done on this question!)
Before the training:
 | Senior management need to be committed to the training
|
 | Staff need to be clear on why they are involved in the training
|
 | Staff and their managers need to discuss the expected results of
the training i.e. what issue is the training intended to address?
Why? What change in behaviour is expected from the staff? How will
this change be determined? What support will staff need? What
follow up will occur?
|
 | Ensure you have engaged the services of a professional training
consultant who is committed to getting results through the
customisation of your program, involvement of your staff, and
measuring the results.
|
By these actions we are trying to encourage staff to be receptive to
the training and to motivate themselves to be involved.
After the training:
 | Staff need to implement the actions they agreed to at the end of
the training
|
 | Managers need to discuss with their staff their proposed actions,
the results and support needed
|
Realisations Consultancy would be delighted to discuss your training
and development needs with you and to customise a program for your
company.
