Avoid Death By PowerPoint
“Boring, cluttered, unimaginative, uninspiring”. Don’t let this be
said of your presentation.
Your presentations should be designed to;
Add impact
 | Reinforce your message
|
 | Leave an indelible (positive) impression
|
Have you heard the expression “Death by PowerPoint”? Don't be guilty
of killing your audience’s enthusiasm.
Use these 8 tips for making a positive impact with your presentation
by using (not abusing) visual aids
- Know your software. Programs such as PowerPoint are quite easy to
learn - really!
- Have one major idea per slide
- Have 4-6 words per line and 6-8 lines per slide
- Have letters at least 6mm high (24 or 36 pitch)
- Use colour and clipart to add impact - but don't get carried away
with the seemingly endless options available in your software.
- Use summaries of the main points - don't clutter the slides with
unnecessary words or detailed graphs
- Don't simply copy text from your notes into a slide and pretend
this is your slide. (Interestingly, when I have seen people do
this they usually accompany it by saying "you probably can't see
this but..." If the audience can't read it get rid of it
- Remember, however, that the most important visual aid is YOU.
Slides are an AID to your presentation - they are not THE
presentation.
